PL - New Special Education Teacher Training: Secondary Transition
Virtual PLAEA Sept 12 2025 (Area-wide)

Are you new to teaching special education? Have you taught special education before, but never in
the state of Iowa? Join us as we dig into critical topics and how-tos that special education teachers
in Iowa need to know!
This training for new special education teachers is a learning package that was developed through
a partnership between the Iowa Department of Education and Area Education Agencies with the
objective of providing consistent, statewide training across the state. This is not the same training
that special education teachers received for the ACHIEVE launch in 2022. Though there are
similarities, this learning was specifically designed with new teachers in mind.
The comprehensive learning package includes 3 courses: Foundations of Practice, Preschool, and
Secondary Transition. This course specifically addresses one part of the comprehensive learning
package: Secondary Transition. For Foundations of Practice and Preschool training, please view the
courses New Special Education Teacher Training: Foundations of Practice and New Special
Education Teacher Training: Preschool.
Please note that part of the comprehensive learning package also includes a short Social-Emotional
Behavior webinar that can be viewed asynchronously and does not require registration.
