Are you new to teaching special education? Have you taught
special education before, but never in the state of Iowa? Join us as we
dig into critical topics and how-tos that special education teachers in
Iowa need to know!
This training for new special education teachers is a learning
package that was developed through a partnership between the Iowa
Department of Education and Area Education Agencies with the objective
of providing consistent, statewide training across the state. This is
not the same training that special education teachers received for the
ACHIEVE launch in 2022. Though there are similarities, this learning was
specifically designed with new teachers in mind.
The comprehensive learning package includes 3 courses: Foundations of Practice, Preschool, and Secondary Transition. This
course specifically addresses one part of the comprehensive learning
package: Foundations of Practice. Foundations of Practice is provided
in 2 parts: Day 1 and Day 2. This syllabus captures Day 2 of
Foundations of Practice. Participants will also register for Day 1 of
Foundations of Practice. For Preschool and Secondary Transition training, please view the courses New Special Education Teacher Training: Preschool and New Special Education Teacher Training: Secondary Transition.
Please note that part of the comprehensive learning package also
includes a short Social-Emotional Behavior webinar that can be viewed
asynchronously and does not require registration.
