What are the instructional practices and strategies that participants will learn? What are the potential results for student learning?
The lowa Specially Designed Instruction (SDI) framework empowers early childhood practitioners to diagnose, design, and deliver high-quality specially designed instruction. Embedded learning is a foundation of this course so that students have multiple opportunities to engage across the daily setting and routines. However, students may also need individualized instruction in specific skills and intensified instruction in specific skills and intensified instruction to progress toward grade level standards. Participants will examine fidelity tools, professional learning materials, action planning to promote high-quality specially designed instruction using DEC recommended practices. The year 2 course digs deeper into the Division for Early Childhood (DEC) recommended practices, use of the Autism Focused Intervention Resources and Modules (AFIRM) modules, routines to the third degree and introduction of fidelity tools.
This course includes 15 contact hours of face to face learning. Additional time (approx 5.5 hours) will be required for completion of independent modules and assignments. The total estimated time commitment equals approximately 20.5 hours.
